February 2020 Flooding

Image of Builth floodingThe county has been hit hard over the last few days and travel is still difficult in some areas due to flooding.

A spokesperson for Powys County Council said: "Storm Dennis has had a major impact in the county with roads impassable due to flooding and some towns and villages being cut off due to flood water.

"Our staff are working extremely hard to deal with the impact."

Council Tax and Business Rates

If your home has been intensely affected by the flooding you may be eligible for some relief from your Council Tax bill. For more information please go to the Discounts and exemptions on properties pages.

If your business has been impacted by the recent adverse weather conditions you may qualify for some help with your Business Rates More information can be found here.

The Welsh Government has formally launched a £2.5million Flood Relief Fund which is available to Welsh businesses to help them recover from damage and disruption caused by the recent storms - Ciara, Dennis and Jorge.

Businesses recovering from the devastating effects of the floods, are able to apply for a grant of £2,500 to help get them fully functional as quickly as possible.


Discretionary Assistance Fund (DAF)

Powys County Council have a helpline available for access to finance for flood victims from the Discretionary Assistance Fund (DAF). The Welsh Government have made up to £1000 per household available through their Discretionary Assistance Fund (DAF) to households impacted by flooding in February 2020.

All households affected by flooding throughout Wales could receive £500. An extra £500 may also be available to those without house insurance cover.

If require financial assistance please ring 0800 859 5924. Please have your national insurance number and home insurance details when you call. This will speed up your application.

Please note that the DAF fund is not available to second homes, holiday lets or landlords.

The help line can also provide assistance with applications for Section 13a Discretionary relief for council tax where the property is incapable of occupation, or partial occupation due to extensive flood damage.
